The sacraments of daily life

Sacraments are conduits through which the mystery of God's grace can touch our lives. Historic Christianity has formally recognised and practised a range of sacraments including holy communion, baptism, confession and marriage. Recently I've starting becoming aware that there is a way to live daily life which can have a profoundly sacramental (note the lower case 's') dimension to it. Things I currently find revealing God's grace to me are not the things I've been traditionally taught to practice. For instance I often feel closer to God in the brief but sincere prayer of thanks my wife and I share before mealtime than I do in a set 'devotional time'. I have found feeding my baby boy his milk at bedtime and stroking him to sleep develops greater intimacy between me and my heavenly father than the most energetic of worship events. And strangely, I have been finding blogging to be as much a revealer of divine truth to me than most bible reading programs I've ever used.

What are your daily sacraments?

I agree with you Matt, good books on this i think are; one Mike P has been recomending at Soul Survivor "Celebration of Disclipine" and Tozer "the Persuit of God" I prefer finding God in my every day life rather than in a quiet time, though i think there definatly needs to be space for regular personal time with God it needs to be in context of regularly finding God in everyday life in community.

Hi Jez, good to see you're enjoying the new blog, hope life's good down there in Cardiff ;-)

Matt - good to hear from you bro'. I probably need to go out and get some Tozer - I've put it off too long! (due to a little observation I made a while ago about the sort of people who tend to be Tozer fans but I won't go into that) Anyway I do have Celebration of Discipline but I haven't had the discipline to get past chpater 1. Sad really...

Peace Matt,
I do remember Celebration of Discipline it being quite heavy to get into, but the later chapters on celebration and the ones near the back are very good, there is a nice one on corporate guidance. I'd be interested on your observation on Tozer fans but im sure it isnt relevant. :-)
